Post Easter

I missed part of what I wanted to see at Easter - the kite flying down at Horseshoe Bay on Good Friday. The bus drivers were on strike again, and taxi drivers were a little thin on the ground, given that it was a holiday. Poo.

But - I did get a number of things done in that minor-key, kick around the house way. Saturday I went in town to pick up some things from the office (most notably the paint for the birdhouse), and poked into shops, suddenly filled with the first cruise-liner's passengers. I know the biggest boats don't come in to Hamilton, but the one that was at the dock was plenty big!

My kitchen island finally got itself here - was waiting at my door when I got back from work today. How she got that in and out of the car, much less up to this level, is a mystery - she laughed and said 'it's all about geometry!', but it is also rather heavy! At least it rolls.

Got an IKEA kitchen table coming, with a couple of need-to-be-painted chairs (which will be fun! All for $50.) And a ceiling fan, for $25.

Figured it was time to show you what the apartment is like now - ergo the photos.
Also - looked out my office window into some sailing ship masts, so at lunch I walked down to see what was there. Photos of that, and Front Street Hamilton, and view across Harbor. (Or, Harbour, as they spell it here - storey, colour, etc. My report mark-ups are all due to American-style spellings.)

For those with me in anguish over my $300 power bill, when I practically live by candlelight - good news! I got the paper bill, with the breakdown, and my usage bill was really only $77 - the rest was deposit and connection fee, billed on this first full month's bill. Phew! I mean, I had turned off the electric ignition on the stove, put everything on power strips I could turn off en masse, and was trying to persuade myself that drip-dry wrinkled clothes were acceptable island wear, even in the office.

Did I mention the wayward seal that was Fed Ex'd back to the mainland? How about the pelican (we don't have pelicans here)? The tiny little baby chicks, clear evidence these feral chickens earn that adjective in more ways than one? (Esp in the longer grasses, they look like bits of fluff of various colors - tho no yellow.)

Enjoy!
